Pocket Park Games

Pocket Park Games is another commission as part of the GOOD GAME project that I worked on in the summer with Ampersand Projects.

Anna ran a number of workshops in Warley Woods, a local park in Bearwood, where people were encouraged to play traditional games and then reinvent and remix them. She also worked with Polly Tisdall, a storyteller and theatre maker, to explore narrative games and how families could work together to create their own game-like worlds. Together, these activities informed the creation of Pocket Park Games, a compendium of games and activities that encourage people of any age to explore urban green spaces in new ways.

Pocket Park Games will be distributed to parks, green spaces and community venues in The Black Country and Birmingham from October 2018. To request a pack, please email: matt.andrews[at]ampersandprojects.org

Green Lens - exhibition

Commission by Kate Andrews (Ampersand Projects) for their exhibition in collaboration with EcoBirmingham, at MAC Birmingham.

Earlier in the year I worked with Ampersand Projects on Green Lens, a photography project concerning environmental activism. I had a lot of fun creating the visual identity which is based on a camera lens - and purposefully kept simple so that the photos take centre stage. I also designed the marketing collateral, exhibition interpretation panels - which we printed on linen (more environmentally-friendly than white vinyl lettering) - and I have also created a basic archive website: https://www.greenlens.org.uk/

Below are photos from the Green Lens exhibition.

Green Lens was a project during Summer 2018 that invited young people across Birmingham to voice the green issues that matter to them, locally or globally, through the medium of photography and film. Explore the archive of photographs and how the contributions will inform and empower change in Birmingham.

Activist Selly Oak typeface for Claire Hickey

Activist Selly Oak 600px (avatar).png

I was commissioned to expand the Activist Selly Oak branding to create a typeface for a clay workshop:

Led by Claire Hickey, an artist who specialises in making site-responsive sculptural objects. participants of the workshop had the chance to work with plaster and specially produced moulds in order to create a series of individual ‘plaques’ for the Activist Selly Oak project.
These plaques will be installed in September at various sites across Selly Oak and the University of Birmingham campus to mark events or places that have come out the project's research, such as the Selly Oak Claimants Union and the Birmingham headquarters for Big Flame on Bristol Rd.

Playable Bearwood, Ampersand Projects

Graphic design for Good Game: Playable Bearwood, a card game created by Gizzago, with illustrations by Annabel Evans & the Bearwood Community. Commissioned by Ampersand Projects.

This was a really wonderful project to work on, it was a delight being a small part of it bringing the illustrations to life through a very simple format layout, colour coding and typesetting.

These are dotted around Bearwood in various cafes, community centres and Thimblemill Library. Pick up a pack (and pass on some of the cards!) if you see one.

Thanks Ampersand Projects!
